What therapy do you provide & what’s it for?
I am a CBT therapist and EMDR practitioner. These are evidence – based forms to therapy designed to support individuals living with anxiety, low mood, phobias, trauma and PTSD. Both CBT & EMDR support individuals in understanding their mental health, learning techniques to take control back and make positive changes to live a more fulfilling, calmer and connected life.
-
How can I prepare for the session?
You can prepare by:
- Writing down a summary of the main area of concerns that drove you to access therapy.
- Identifying your goals for therapy, such as what you’d like to be different.
- Reflecting on any experiences, emotions, thoughts or physical sensations that are troubling you.
-
How will I know what to say in my appointment?
You will be offered an Initial assessments to start with. You don’t need to worry about what to say, as I will guide you through the appointment. I will ask you specific questions that will help us develop a shared understanding of your mental health difficulties, what factors are maintaining the problem and most importantly, identify the area you would like to target to work on in therapy. This is called a ‘formulation’. I will also use a variety of planned questionnaires to support our exploration.
-
How will I know what therapy I need?
My role is to work alongside you to gain shared understanding of your current difficulties and what you want to achieve in therapy. This will help me rule in or out different mental health presentations and what treatment route is most effective to support recovery. I will share with your my provisional diagnosis and if CBT or EMDR is most effective to support your goals. I will provide written information on the options and then we will discuss your preference to make a collaborative decision.

Do you have a specialist interest?
I specialise in working with trauma and PTSD. I am a duel trained therapist in CBT & EMDR which are evidence based forms of therapy to support recovery from PTSD.
I also have a special interest in supporting individuals from ‘ex-pat’ and military families. I am from a military family myself and I am a military wife. I have lived experience of supporting deployments, relocations and international postings. This lived experience allows me to emphasise with some of the challenges, as well as the opportunities, that are offered as part of this unique life path. I feel these experiences also enable me to work alongside individuals from backgrounds of uncertainty, multiple relocations, marginalised social groups and those living with trauma.
-
What is the frequency and duration of sessions?
The normal duration of each session is 50 minutes for CBT and 60-90 minutes for EMDR, although I reserve the right to amend that time for therapeutic reasons.
Treatment will vary depending on the provisional diagnosis identified and treatment plan, in accordance with the evidence base recommendations. Typically, therapy is usually around 12-16 sessions. However, we may need less, or require more sessions, based on your individual presentation. I would usually consider reviewing how treatment is going at around session 6 to ensure it continues to feel like a suitable match.
-
What happens in each session?
Sessions will usually follow a similar pattern. We’d start by collaboratively agreeing on the agenda for the session. I would then provide some time to check in with how you have been since the last session and review any home tasks that were set between sessions. We would reflection on your individual formulation and spent the majority of the session testing out new skills to support your recovery aligned with your treatment goals. We would then agree on home practice tasks and secure the next session.
-
How do you measure progress?
Successful therapy is as individual as you are.
We could determine success by developing your understanding of your mental health difficulties. By what you learn in therapy to make meaningful changes to your life. By meeting your therapy goals. By developing a safe space for you to feel held and safe in exploring your mental health.
